Moments from the everyday life of commuters
I was born in Sopron. Austrian employment and the related "pending" lifestyle are increasingly influencing the life of the western border region of the country.
Since the fall of communism, more and more people have agreed to look for work in Austria, and today every hundredth Hungarian employee works there, their number exceeds 155 thousand. Almost a third of them commute from Hungary to work in Austria daily or at least weekly.
The most important driving force is, of course, the significant difference in earning potential and the higher quality of social benefits.
I research how they feel, how they fit into the foreign language environment, in what fields of work they find happiness and what problems they face.
I would like to show in environmental portraits the diversity of working in Austria, people of different ages and in different fields. I find plenty of examples of commuting in my family and friends, in my age group who did not go to further education, almost all those living in the neighborhood found work outside. Most of them work in industrial, construction or hospitality and services. Some of the older generation have already spent decades abroad as Austrian workers and feel how much resignation and adaptation this way of life requires.
